Reservoir hill residence
LOCATION: WEST CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS This 1908 Colonial in Cambridge’s Reservoir Hill neighborhood was redesigned for returning clients who placed deep trust in the process, allowing for bold choices and confident use of color throughout a comprehensive interior transformation. The result is a series of dramatic yet considered spaces, unified by close attention to detail, craftsmanship, and material integrity across the home.
The kitchen is anchored by a glossy black French range and a custom brass-detailed hood that establish a clear focal point. Beaded-inset cabinetry and honed quartzite counters reinforce a sense of craft, while restored windows bring in generous natural light and give the room an openness that belies its modest ceiling height. Just beyond, a butler’s pantry functions as a coffee bar, finished in deep green lacquered cabinetry that draws from the depth of the black range while framing views of the surrounding landscape.
Across the main level, color and pattern create distinct moments within a cohesive whole. A refined mix of blush florals, dark trim, and black marble brings quiet drama to the powder room. The study is defined by a scenic mural that feels both whimsical and composed, with colors that echo the broader first-floor palette.
Upstairs, the primary bedroom is conceived as a serene retreat, with soft cloud wallpaper lending lightness and calm. The primary bath features a classic black-and-white palette of marble and mosaic tile, paired with custom ebonized walnut vanities inspired by an antique console. A shared dressing room continues the palette with burgundy foliage wallpaper and tailored millwork.
The boys’ bedrooms balance whimsy with longevity. Their bathrooms highlight handcrafted tile, from navy penny rounds to geometric handmade ceramics, paired with warm wood vanities and thoughtfully selected finishes.
The result is a home that balances history and modern life, defined by confident color, layered pattern, and a fearless approach to design.
